Negaunee High School Students Learn Workplace Safety

miosha logoNegaunee– Yesterday the intern was out of the office at Great Lakes Radio, I was at the school attending a safety seminar.  Negaunee High School students heard a presentation from Passes Edge Training, a nonprofit organization funded by MIOSHA (Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration).  Passes Edge is dedicated to giving students proper training on workplace safety,  student employment laws, and standards.  The students were taught safe use of chemicals to avoid accidents at work or in the chemistry lab for a science class.  They were also shown proper lifting technique and ladder safety, workplace attire/safety equipment, and how to properly operate machinery.  Safety interacting in the workplace was also presented through learning adolescent labor laws, how to say no in an unsafe situation, retail safety, and sexual harassment.  The program was hands on and interesting.  As a student myself I think it was a great opportunity to hear this presentation and learn great safety tips for the workplace. This will be useful information that we can use our whole life to stay safe at our jobs.
