Houghton County Airport Gets Federal Grant

    Hancock, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Houghton County Memorial Airport near Hancock is receiving over $800,000 to help rehabilitate a portion of the facilty’s runway area.

    The $856,203 grant will be used to upgrade the concrete of its apron, which is the area where aircraft are parked.

    Officials say the project will make traveling to and from the U.P. safer and more efficient and will encourage economic growth in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

    The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Transportation.
