Washington, D.C. – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan U. S. Senator Gary Peters has introduced legislation to protect and improve rural mail service.

Peters says the Rural Postal Act of 2015 places a two-year moratorium on the closure of mail processing facilities, restores delivery standards and preserves six-day mail home delivery.

The measure would protect the mail processing facility in Iron Mountain and two others downstate that are slated for closure.

Peters introduced the package of bills with Senators Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Jon Tester of Montana, and Claire McCaskill of Missouri.
