Sault Ste. Marie, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is continuing to investigate the cause of a mechanical failure that closed down one of the Sault Ste. Marie locks for emergency repairs.

The Army Corps says the MacArthur Lock is experiencing mechanical issues and has been taken out of operation.

One set of gates on the navigation lock is not closing properly and crews are working to determine the problem.

The Corps has drained the lock to help locate the cause.

The closure of the lock is expected to last a minimum of 10 days and will cause shipping delays on the Great Lakes.
