Lansing, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says his office is monitoring gas stations to check for attempted price gouging or fixing.

Schuette has also issued a letter to BP, the owner of the Whiting, Indiana facility experiencing an outage that has been blamed for recent gas price increase in the Midwest outlining a need for transparency in the case of an outage or other unexpected event.

Schuette says as Michigan families are seeing an increase in the price at the pump, it does not give a free pass for gas stations to gouge consumers.

He encouraged anyone who feels they have been subject to gas price gouging to contact his Consumer Protection Division.
