Negaunee public schools have not passed a recent contract

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Negaunee Public Schools Board of Education has voted to not support a recently-negotiated contract between teachers and the district.

At their meeting last night, the Board said language in the contract concerning teacher tenure and “at will” employee hiring and firing policies has been deemed as illegal language in contract negotiations by the state legislature. As a result, the Board cannot support the agreement as it stands.

Reports say a letter of understanding will be drafted that will be added to the contract that will allow the language in the event that an upcoming ballot initiative overturns the issue of those particular items.
