Truck took down powerlines with over-sized load in Negaunee Township

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says a truck with an over-sized load of wind generator equipment tore down a series of electrical lines on M-35 near the Jarvi Road intersection in Negaunee Township yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. when the southbound truck hit some low-hanging electrical lines.   Deputies say some power poles broke in half causing high voltage power line to land on the trailer, temporarily trapping the driver in the cab of the truck.

The driver, who’s name has not been released, was not injured. Power was out for area residents for over five hours.  Traffic also had to be rerouted around the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
