MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a two car accident in Marquette Township yesterday evening that sent one woman to the hospital.
The accident happened just before 8 P.M. at the intersection of US 41 West and County Road HQ. 24-year-old Lisa Rautiola of Marquette was turning her minivan east onto US 41 from County Road HQ onto US 41 when she was struck by a westbound truck, driven by 51-year-old Thomas Ross of Baraga.
Ross told deputies that his vision was obstructed by the setting sun when he ran the red light at the intersection. Rautiola was taken to Marquette General with neck and head pain.
Ross was ticketed for disregarding a traffic control device. Assisting on the scene was the Marquette Township Fire Department.
