MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Governor Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. flags to be lowered to half-staff throughout Michigan tomorrow in honor of downstate West Bloomfield Township Police Officer Patrick O’Rourke.
The 39-year old O’Rourke was fatally shot Sunday night while he and fellow officers answered a call to assist a man they believed was suicidal.
O’Rourke was a 12-year veteran of the department and the first West Bloomfield Township Police officer killed in the line of duty.
Flags should be returned to full-staff on Saturday.
