10 people have been arrested on drug and child abuse charges and more are expected

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Authorities in the Eastern U.P. are reporting the arrest of 10 people following a month-long investigation.

The Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office has authorized a total of 20 counts of child abuse, several drug charges and other miscellaneous counts in the case.

Search warrants were executed at residences in Kinross, Brimley, Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace and investigators seized hundreds of marijuana plants and hash oil along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

According to Chippewa County Prosecutor Brian Peppler, the investigation began when County Sheriff’s Deputies discovered marijuana plants at a residence they were called to for a domestic assault report.

Additional charges are expected due to the fact that there were children present when the various drug crimes were committed.

No names are being released as the investigation is continuing and further arrests are expected.
