Called Operation Verify, it’s the ninth annual sex offender sweep in the state as officers look for those who have not verified their address. How often an offender needs to do so depends on the severity of their crimes and convictions, with some needing to verify their address every year and others having to do it once a quarter.

All sex offenders have to report a new address, vehicle, job change and college enrollment within three business days. Failure to do so is four-year felony.

As of October 1, there were 40,155 offenders on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry; 37,261 offenders were in compliance with the registry’s requirements.
