Escanaba, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Escanaba Public Safety is warning residents of a telephone scam in the area.
They report receiving complaints about calls from someone claiming to be from a collection agency seeking money for unpaid residential power bills on behalf of the city.
The caller says power will be disconnected if an immediate payment by credit card is not made.
Authorities say the city does not make such calls and does not demand immediate payments over the phone and anyone who receives such a call should simply hang up.
