Three Arrested After Being Rescued from Breakwall

    Three rescued by Coast Guard from breakwallMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Marquette City Police arrested three men Saturday afternoon after they climbed past a locked safety gate on the Upper Harbor breakwall and became trapped by high winds and waves off Lake Superior.

    Police received a call around 3:30 p.m. from an eyewitness at Presque Isle about the three men going over the gate and walking out to the lighthouse at the end of the breakwall. They became trapped by the high winds and waves and conditions were too rough for police to go out to them.

    Police called the U.S. Coast Guard who were able to rescue the men off of the breakwall and return them to shore around 4:45 p.m. where they were taken into custody.

    The men were arrested for drunk & disorderly conduct and no names have been released at this time.

    The three individuals each face up to 90 days in jail and fines if convicted.
