Michigan Senate passes abortion legislationMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The Michigan Senate yesterday passed controversial abortion bills.

Under the legislation, doctors would be required to determine if a woman was coerced into having an abortion, abortion clinics would have to be licensed and it would require that fetuses be disposed of in the same way as any other human body.

The legislation would ban tele-medicine for birth control and other reproductive health issues, meaning a woman would have visit a doctor to get a prescription for birth control medications.

Opponents of the bills say that would make Michigan the most regressive state in the country with regard to women’s reproduction freedom.  But supporters say the legislation doesn’t prevent a woman from getting an abortion in Michigan, but it does require that her clinic will be clean, be licensed, and be inspected.
