Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)While the head of the Michigan Retailers Association points to economic factors for a decline in sales in February, he also points to the gloomy weather for a poor start to the spring buying season.

The MRA’s Jim Hallan says while unemployment and gas prices remain high, and even payroll taxes have gone up, he also blames a lack of enthusiasm by consumers to even leave home to shop, because of the gloomy weather in February.

Hallan expects sales to improve once the weather improves, and consumers get into the mood for outdoor spring sales and more. However, until then, he says Michigan retailers will experience a “bumpy ride” with the economy, as well as on the roads.
