Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is calling on Governor Rick Snyder to reconsider his position on a plan to move their Marquette Casino.
The KBIC purchased the former Marquette County Airport property in Negaunee Township in 1999 to move the facility there from Chocolay Township.
The new facility would be a tourism/entertainment destination resort with a casino, hotel, live music venue, waterpark and golf course.
The tribe was granted federal approval for the project in 2013, but Governor Snyder would not sign off on the project.
The tribal council has requested an answer from the Governor by this Sunday.
