Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The City of Marquette is naming a downtown park in honor of a long-time Marquette resident. At their regular meeting last night, the Marquette City Commission unanimously approved the naming of the city’s Pocket Park on Washington Street in honor of Phil Niemisto. Niemisto is well known in the Marquette community for caring for the park and helping to maintain storefronts on Washington and 3rd Streets. The city will erect a permanent plaque at the park commemorating Niemisto’s work later this year.
