Sands Township, MI  –  August 15th, 2015  –   I made my way around the fairgrounds to help the community celebrate 25 strong years with the Marquette County Fair! Before even stepping on the grounds, I smelled the scent of elephant ears as it wafted through the air and heard the chattering of crowds.

While snapping shots in every direction, I crossed the fairgrounds and took in all the sights.  The excitement of bystanders mixed with my own! The Marquette County Fair had some amazing animals including Ring Tailed Lemurs, Red Kangaroos, Crocodiles, many species of exotic birds and more! I watched community members interact with many of these animals. People fed sheep and goats, while others dared to enter the bird cage!

Around Noon, the 4-H Livestock auction started and soon it was time to complete the Win the Meat Giveaway sponsored by Honor Credit Union, Hiawathaland Farm Bureau, Rainbow Packing of Escanaba, the Marquette County Fair and Great Lakes Radio’s 103.3 FXD! Two hogs raised by local youth were purchased by Ron Lauren of Honor Credit Union for the winners for of the Win the Meat Giveaway! Our sponsors took pleasure in announcing the four winners before getting a photo together in the Livestock Barn.

Despite the sun beating down, the turnout across the fair was impressive as more and more people wandered throughout the day. Lines grew at the carnival rides and around the various exhibitions.

The Marquette County Fair is a fun event with rides and sweet treats, but also a community event. It takes a lot to put the fair together and this group has done it for 25 years! Exhibitors, staff and volunteers from around the area all come together to make this event happen. Families are brought together to help a 4-Her show for the first time or the tenth time. The fair gives everyone a weekend to remember.

If you missed today’s events at the Marquette County Fairgrounds, the fair continues through tomorrow! Make sure to come on out and support the fair as they wrap up their 25th year!

You can also check out a photo gallery below showing some of today’s exhibitions!
