For many people, the thought of going on a diet is a daunting task. Not just because they fear depriving themselves their favorite food; but for some the thought of bland, boring meals seems too much to overcome.
One way to prevent this is to investigate low-calorie, flavorfull garnishes for main courses that take the dieter to places not seen everyday. Most are very low calorie, very high results in flavor.
For example:
Say you’re having a grilled chicken breast with a vegetable side for dinner. Healthy, sure, but not the most tantilizing flavor experience. Mix up a quick Mango Salsa to top the chicken. Prep takes about 10 – 15 minutes and the remaining Salsa keeps for up to 5 days in the fridge. This tangy diversion also works well to jazz-up Pork or Fish.
1 Mango peeled and cut into 1/4 ” pieces
1 Red, Yellow or Orange Sweet Bell Pepper also cut in 1/4 pieces
1/2 Large Red Onion chopped
2 small Roma Tomatoes
3 Tablespoons Lime Juice
1/2 Cup chopped Cilantro
1 – 5 dashes of Tobasco (if desired)
Combine all ingredients in a medium glass bowl and let sit for at least 20 minutes, stir before topping the meat with the Salsa. ENJOY!!
