Negaunee, MI. – Around 90 kids represent the Negaunee Miners football program for the 2011 Mid-Peninsula Conference football campaign.

Varsity, JV and Freshman football each have about 30 players each, and as is the case every year optimism is running high with the Maize and Blue this season.

Several key players return at the Varsity level, highlighted by the return of Quarterback Tanner Uren and Running Back Tyler Beaumont.

Offensive Co-ordinator Kevin Jacobson has the very rare opportunity to cultivate a potential three-year starter in Uren; who got the nod as a Sophomore in 2010.

“He’s matured, he knows the system” Jacobson said.  “He even said in practice he knew what play was coming next which is encouraging for me because it gives me the opportunity to work with some of the other positions knowing my quarterback has what we do down, and that I don’t need to worry as much about him.”

The Miners open the season at home Friday August 26th against Manistique.

The Miners play on Sunny 101.9 WKQS again this season with Mark Evans and Gregg Nelson handling the broadcast.
