Negaunee, Mich. – Following their 40 – 20 Mid Peninsula Conference win over Manistique last Friday, the Negaunee Miners (1 – 0) now prepare for week two of the high school football season on campus at NMU; taking on Roscommon Friday night in the Superior Dome.
Roscommon, 0 – 1 on the season following a 35 – 13 loss at Grayling, will face Negaunee for just the second time in school history. The two teams played in the second round of the MHSAA Div. 6 playoffs in 1999, with the Bucks winning that contest at home 23 – 14.
Grayling took the lead early last Thursday and never looked back against Roscommon. The Vikings led 28-0 at halftime en route to their 35-13 victory.
“I think we battled out there for four quarters,” Roscommon coach Joe Holloway told the Bay City Times after the game. “Were trying to build a program here, and I’m proud of the way we competed.”
Austin Sluegel scored on a 22-yard run in the third for Roscommon, while Zach Stachurski added a 16-yard score in the fourth.
