“The Teaching Power of Stories” Workshop for Educators

1958

All people who see themselves as teachers are invited to join Bill Harley for a free workshop on the “Teaching Power of Stories” on Saturday, February 11. The 90 minute workshop begins at 10:30 am Community Room on the lower level of the library.

To Harley, a teacher is someone who gives stories to others so they can make their own. Regardless of the subject taught, story is central to how people make sense of the world and build a community with others. In this workshop, participants will look at how stories work in people’s lives, what stories define their own lives, and how to use story in an educational setting. Teachers will leave with new ideas for using story in the classroom and a deeper understanding of their work as teachers.

Bill Harley is a two-time Grammy winning singer-songwriter, author and monologist. He is considered by fans and peers alike to be one of the best storytellers in the country for his celebrations of commonality and humanity through narrative songs and confessional spoken works. A regular commentator on National Public Radio’s (NPR) All Things Considered, Harley’s programs for adults feature his trademark blend of song and story, wit and wisdom. There is no charge for the workshop thanks to sponsorship in part by Beaumier Heritage Center; Friends of Peter White Public Library, Marquette Area Public Schools, Carroll Paul Memorial Trust Fund of Peter White Public Library, City Insurance Agency and Tourville Apartments.
